The department of Economics, sacred Heart College, Chalakudy organized a national seminar on the topic ‘Digital economy: impacts, influences, and challenges’. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. D. Retnaraj, Professor and HeadDepartment of Economics, University of Calicut. In his inaugural address Dr. Retnaraj tried to highlight the role played by IT in the functioning of modern economy. The key note address was delivered by Professor Sunil Mani, Planning Commission Chair in Development Economics, Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum. He presented a paper titled ‘On mainstreaming the growth performance of the Information and Communications Technology Sector in India’. Dr. Mani placed the precise role of this emerging sector in India's GDP and assessed empirically, ten different hypotheses that are encountered in the literature on the growth performance of the sector. Researchers from various south Indian states presented papers in the seminar. The valedictory function was inaugurated by Dr. C. Krishnan, Chairman, Under Graduate Board of Studies in Economics, University of Calicut.

Gold will lead to next recession
Speculative investment in Gold will lead to next recession, argues Adv. Mani Vithayathil, Chairman, KSFE. Delivering the inaugural address of 'Interface', Adv. Mani said the if the present recession could be attributed to speculative investment in real estate, the next recession will occur in ten years due to over speculation in investments in Gold. He opined that "Interface' is a significant attempt as the intersection of the streams of Commerce and Economics could be beneficial to the society.

The selected papers may be published as an edited volume after incorporating suggestions from referees. Only registered participants can present papers.
