‘Remembering a great Economist - K.N. Raj’

The department organised the Annual Lecture series in honour of Rev. Se. Ritty Paul Former Principal and Head of the Department of Economics.

Topic ‘Remembering a great Economist - K.N. Raj’.

Dr. A.A. Baby, Head of the Department of Economics, St. Thomas College, Thrissur delivered a lecture on the life and works of Prof. K.N. Ran. Sr. Ritty Paul presided over the function and Sr. Lilly Maria delivered the welcome address.

A photo exhibition on K.N. Raj was organised on the same day by the departments of Economics and History, St. Thomas College, Thrissur.

Women empowerment - a wrong notion ?

As part of International Women’s Day celebrations, a debate on ‘Women Empowerment – a wrong nation’ was organised by the department at 2 p.m. in the language hall. Papers were presented by Ms Litty P. George and Ms Deepthimol of II DC Economics.

Seminar on Technology and Gender

As part of celebrating National Science Day 2010 the department organized a one day seminar on 24th February, 2010 supported by Kerala State Council for science, Technology and Environment and DST, Government of India. The topic of the seminar is ‘Technology and Gender’ which falls in line with the focal theme suggested by the council viz ‘Gender equality for prosperity with peace’. The purpose of the seminar was to bring attention to the issues relating to gender and technology and make students, parents and the women of the locality aware of the issues involved. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Moly Kuruvilla, Director, Centre for Women’s studies University of Calicut. The principal presided over the function and Sr. Lilly Maria, Head of the Department the audience. Facilitations were offered by Dr. Sr. Irene, Department of Physics Ms. Shymala, C.G., Department of English and Ms. Sunu Paul, President, College Students council. Ms. Shirley Jose, Programme Co-ordination proposed the vote of thanks.
In the technical session papers were presented by Dr. Suma Paulose, Professor and Head, Agronomic Research Station, Kerala, Agricultural University, Dr. Rosy Thampy, Reader, Department of Malayalam and Dr. Chacko Jose P., Department of Economics. Ms Remya Ragunandan, formally thanked the audience.

Student Economist Released

The manuscript magazine of the department ‘STUDENT ECONOMIST’ was released by Dr. Abraham Thachil, Head of the Department, PG department of Economics, St. Thomas College, Thrissur. On 29th January 2010 in the seminar hall at 8.30 a.m. Dr. Chacko Jose welcomed the audience and Ms. Diya Udhayan, Secretary, Economics Association offered the vote of thanks.

Conserve, for resources are scarce

As part of it’s extension activities, the department in association with the Econ club, conducted the following activities to observe energy conservation fortnight.
15.01.2010 - Energy conservation pledge taken by students
Energy conservation Banner displayed in the college garden.
21.01.2010 - Energy – Environment Written Quiz competition for all students No. of participants – 100.

‘ECOM QUIZ’ 2009

The inter – collegiate quiz competition. ‘ECOM QUIZ’ was organised on January 13, 2010 at 10.30 a.m. in the seminar hall. Mr. Tojo Jose, Lecturer, Department of Economics, PMG College, Chalakudy was the quizmaster. Seven teams participated in this quiz at the end of which the first prize was bagged by Ms. Mridula T.N. and Ms. Bindhu Davis of 1st D.C. Economics, SH College, Chalakudy. The 2nd and 3rd places were secured by St. Xavier’s college, Aluva and Naipunnya College, Pongom, Koratty. The cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners by the principal and the participation certificates were distributed by Sr. Lilly Maria, Head of the Department and Mr. Tojo Jose, the quiz master.

Inauguration of Student's Economics Forum

Dr. C.C. Babu, Head of the Dept. of Economics, PMG College, Chalakudy inaugurating the activities of Student's Economics Forum for the year 2009-10on 12th November 2009 . The principal Sr. Angel Rose presided over the function and released the logo of the department. Our first year students, Mridula & Bindhu, who secured the 3rd prize in the he general quiz competition conducted by the chemistry department were congratulated on this occasion. The chief guest delivered the inaugural address on the topic ‘Kerala Economy’. The secretary of the Economics Association Ms. Diya Udhayan proposed the vote of thanks.
