 Competition for               
MA Economics Students for

ARTHASHASTRA PRIZE

Dear Sir / Madam,      
                                                               
The Economics Association of Sacred Heart College, Chalakudy is organising a paper presentation competition for MA students based on their MA Project work. The winner of the competition will be awarded the ‘ARTHASHASTRA PRIZE’ comprising of a citation, trophy and cash prize of Rs. 2000.

The competition will be held on 21st  October 2014 at Sacred Heart College, Chalakudy.
The competition is being organised in two stages. In stage one any student who has completed MA Economics in 2014 can send abstract of his/her project work. Based on this six students will be shortlisted and will be invited to make a presentation of project based on which the ‘ARTHASHASTRA PRIZE’ will be awarded. All the projects selected for stage two and other selected projects from stage one will be published in the Journal of the Department of Economics of Sacred Heart College, Chalakudy.

I request you to intimate the matter to your students and encourage maximum number of students to send papers.

Important Dates

Intimation of selected abstracts for stage II: 7th October  2014

ARTHASHASTRA PRIZE

Rules and Regulations


The completion is being held in two stages. In stage I any student who has completed MA Economics in 2014 can send abstract of his/her project work. In stage II, six students will be shortlisted from stage I and will be invited to make a presentation of project based on which the ‘ARTHASHASTRA PRIZE’ will be awarded. All the projects selected for stage two and other selected projects from stage one will be published in the Journal of the Department of Economics of Sacred Heart College, Chalakudy.

1.  All students who have completed their MA Economics (any branch)  in 2014 from any university or affiliated college in Kerala can participate in the competition.

2. Interested students should send in an abstract of their project on or before September 30th  2014.

-The abstract should be of not more than 1000 words (Times New Roman, 12, 1.5 spacing) and should contain (a) the title of the project (b) relevance of the topic (c) problem of study                (d) objectives (e) methodology (f) findings.
-The student should produce the copy of the project at the time of presentation in stage II  for verification.
-The abstract should be sent by email only to economics.shcollege@gmail.com

Following details should be provided by the participants in the email (a) Name of student            (b) Course and College (c) year of completion of MA (d) personal email (f) contact number.
Intimations will be sent by email address only.

-Last date for submitting abstracts: 30th September 2014. Students whose abstracts are selected for stage II will be intimated by email by 7th October 2014.

3. Six projects will be shortlisted in stage I based on quality parameters. The selected students will be invited to make a presentation of their project based on which the panel of experts will identify the student for the ‘ARTHASHASTRA PRIZE’ comprising of a citation, trophy and cash prize of Rs. 2000. All students participating in stage II will be given certificate of merit and selected students will be given a cash prize of Rs. 500.
Presentation should be a slide presentation (PowerPoint 2007) of 20 minutes duration and should include (a) the title of the project (b) relevance of the topic (c) problem of study                (d) objectives (e) methodology (f) findings.

-The presentations will be judged by a panel of experts with the following weightage. Content and merit of project – 60%, Slide quality, slide quality and diversity and communication skills – 40 %. 

-The language of presentation should be English.

-After presentation the students should interact with the panel of experts for clarifications.

-The decision of panel of experts will be final and binding.

Competition will be held on 21st  October 2014 at 10.30 AM at Sacred heart College, Railway Station Road, Chalakudy, Thrissur Dt.

-The students should report at 10.00 Am.

-The presentations should be saved in a CD and should be handed over at the time of registration.

4. All the projects selected for stage II and other selected projects from stage I will be published in the Journal of the Department of Economics of Sacred Heart College, Chalakudy. For this the students should prepare a research paper based on the project. The details of the same will be intimated later.

5. There is no registration fee. All participants in stage II will be provided local hospitality.

6. The organisers reserve the right to amend the rules and regulations.

Statistics2013 - workshop on ‘Use of statistical techniques with the aid of software packages’

The events organized in connection with the International Year of Statistics (Statistics2013) by the Department of Economics, Sacred Heart College, Chalakudy concluded with the workshop on ‘Use of statistical techniques with the aid of software packages’. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. E. Sandhya, winner of ‘Indian Science Congress young scientist award’ and Head of Statistics, Prajyoti Niketan College, Pudukad.

Inauguration of International Year of Statistics

The celebrations in connection with ‘Statistics2013’was inaugurated by Dr. Dr. K.C. James, Head of the Department of Statistics, Cochin University. Another event to mark the occasion was a seminar on ‘Statistics as a research tool in social and business sciences’, in which Dr. K .P.Mani, Professor of Economics, Calicut University delivered the keynote address.
